HBIMS-NAF&SA does not replace DGMA / DG Shipping, Indian Maritime University, DGMA-approved MTIs, approved medical examiners or shipping companies. Is HBIMS-NAF&SA an MTI?
HBIMS-NAF&SA is a documented admission-support framework. Pre-sea training is conducted at DGMA / DG Shipping-approved Maritime Training Institutes.
HBIMS-NAF&SA helps candidates understand, prepare and move through the admission pathway. Final MTI allocation or mapping depends on candidate eligibility, medical fitness, documents, seat availability, course rules and MTI acceptance.
What is the National Admission Framework?
The National Admission Framework is a structured, written and stage-wise process designed to reduce confusion in Merchant Navy admission.
It helps candidates move from enquiry to eligibility screening, counselling, documentation, medical-readiness guidance and MTI mapping through a more transparent route.
What is Seat Assurance?
Seat Assurance means a documented seat-allocation and admission-support process for eligible, processed and accepted candidates.
It does not mean job guarantee, medical fitness guarantee or admission without rules. Seat Assurance is subject to:

Is Seat Assurance the same as placement guarantee?
No. Seat Assurance is not a job guarantee.
Seat Assurance relates to documented admission support and seat allocation into suitable DGMA / DG Shipping-approved MTI pathways, subject to rules and acceptance.
Placement, employment, shipboard joining and company selection depend on training completion, certification, medical fitness, company requirement, vessel availability, performance and applicable maritime rules.

Section 2Eligibility and Application
Can I apply with poor 10th marks?
It depends on the course.
For some rating-level routes such as GP Rating, minimum academic requirements generally include a minimum aggregate and English requirement. For some routes, ITI or other approved backgrounds may also be considered, subject to current rules and MTI acceptance.
For CCMC, DNS, B.Sc. Nautical Science, ETO, GME and
B.Tech Marine Engineering, eligibility requirements are different.

Is medical fitness compulsory for Merchant Navy?
Yes. Medical fitness is a critical requirement in Merchant Navy. Candidates must meet applicable medical standards before pre-sea training and shipboard joining.
Final medical fitness can be decided only by a DGMA / DG Shipping-approved Medical Examiner.
Can HBIMS-NAF&SA declare me medically fit?
No. HBIMS-NAF&SA can guide you about medical-readiness awareness, but it cannot declare you medically fit.
Only a DGMA / DG Shipping-approved Medical Examiner can issue a valid medical fitness certificate as per applicable rules.
What medical areas are commonly checked?

Colour vision standards are very important, especially for deck-side and watchkeeping duties.

Can I pay in cash?
No. Candidates should avoid cash payment.
HBIMS-NAF&SA promotes transparent payment through proper banking channels such as UPI, NEFT, RTGS, card or other officially accepted payment modes.
Every payment should have a written acknowledgement.
Cash demand by an unauthorised person is a serious warning sign.
Will I receive a receipt or acknowledgement?
Yes. Payment and admission-stage communication should be properly documented.

What if someone asks me to pay personally?
Do not pay.

What if I drop out?
Refund, cancellation or dropout handling depends on the applicable policy, timing, MTI rules, course stage, documentation status and payment terms.
Candidates should read the written fee and refund policy before payment.

Are course fees paid to HBIMS-NAF&SA or MTI?
This depends on the specific stage and documented process.

Which MTI will I go to?
MTI mapping is usually handled during the documented seat-mapping stage.

HBIMS-NAF&SA guides candidates toward approved MTI pathways, but the candidate and parent should also verify training approval and course details before final admission.
How long is GP Rating training?
GP Rating training is generally a residential pre-sea training programme of around six months.
Candidates should verify the exact batch duration, reporting date, hostel rules and course structure from the mapped MTI and official admission communication.
GP Rating CourseIs hostel mandatory?
Most pre-sea maritime training is residential in nature. Hostel life is important because Merchant Navy training requires discipline, uniform culture, mess routine, early rising, PT, parade, practical training and controlled campus life.

HBIMS-NAF&SA may provide guidance, but final shipboard employment depends on shipping-company selection and applicable maritime requirements.
What is the first salary in Merchant Navy?
Salary depends on course, rank, company, vessel type, flag, contract, candidate performance, certification and market conditions.
Any salary range should be treated as an estimate, not a promise. Candidates should avoid anyone giving a guaranteed salary without written company documentation.
Is Merchant Navy income tax-free?
Tax treatment depends on residential status, number of days outside India, income source, applicable Indian tax law and individual facts.

Can a rating candidate become an officer later?
Yes, rating-to-officer progression may be possible through prescribed sea service, eligibility, examinations, certification and applicable rules.

Can GP Rating lead to long-term growth?

Can CCMC candidates grow in Merchant Navy?
