What is B.Tech Marine Engineering?

B.Tech Marine Engineering is a professional marine engineering degree programme. It prepares students to operate, maintain and manage shipboard machinery systems. The course is suitable for candidates who want to become Trainee Marine Engineer, Junior Engineer, Fourth Engineer, Third Engineer, Second Engineer, Chief Engineer or marine technical superintendent after experience.

Course Duration

The course duration is generally 4 years full-time residential undergraduate programme. Eligible diploma candidates may also apply for lateral entry into the second year, subject to current IMU / DGMA / institute rules.

Entry Routes

Educational Qualification

10+2 PCM Requirement

10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English
Minimum 60% aggregate marks in PCM
Minimum 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th
Qualification from a recognised board

Lateral Entry Eligibility

Lateral entry may be available for eligible diploma holders, subject to the current notification. Common streams may include Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Shipbuilding Engineering and other approved technical diploma routes where accepted.

Marks Relaxation

For SC/ST candidates, a 5% relaxation may apply in PCM eligibility marks, but not in English marks.

For eligible Scheduled Tribe candidates from Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, relaxation in English marks may apply as per current admission rules, subject to specified conditions.

Medical

Medical Fitness Requirement

Candidates must be medically fit as per DGMA / DG Shipping medical standards. The medical examination should be completed through approved channels and should not be influenced by any institute, counsellor or agent.
