HBIMS-NAF&SA^™: National Admission Framework & Seat Assurance

HBIMS-NAF&SA, also known as HBIMS-NAF, HBIMS, NAF, NAF&SA, National Admission Framework, National Admission Framework & Seat Assurance, Humble Bee Institute of Marine Studies and Humble Bee Education Foundation, is a documented admission-support framework for Merchant Navy aspirants.

Overview

What is ETO in Merchant Navy?

ETO stands for Electro Technical Officer. The ETO is a shipboard technical officer responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical, electronic, automation and communication systems onboard modern ships.

ETO duties cover electrical distribution, generators, alternators, bridge electronics, engine-room electrical systems, alarm monitoring, sensors, instrumentation, communication equipment and shipboard power management systems.

Course Duration

The ETO pre-sea course is generally 4 months. After shore-based training, the candidate normally completes required onboard training, assessment, sea service and examination requirements as per DGMA / DG Shipping rules.

Medical Fitness Requirement

Candidates must be medically fit as per DGMA / DG Shipping medical standards. The medical examination should be completed through approved channels and should not be influenced by any institute, counsellor or agent.

No. IMU-CET is not generally mandatory for ETO. ETO admission is normally based on technical qualification, English marks, medical fitness, MTI or company selection, written test or interview where applicable, and sponsorship or placement-linked selection where required.
